Chargers Coach Dan Henning said Monday the team would not take disciplinary action against center Courtney Hall, cited Oct. 27 for allegedly engaging in lewd conduct and soliciting a prostitute.

Henning, who had no comment on the incident, did say the team offered to help Hall.

“From a club standpoint, we will, and have, counseled Courtney on possible avenues that he needs to take,” Henning said.

Police spotted Hall, 23, in a parked car with Anthony Thompson, 26, in North Park hours after the Chargers’ 20-9 loss at Seattle, The Times reported Sunday. Police said Thompson was dressed in women’s clothing.

Hall faces a court hearing Dec. 17 for misdemeanor citations.

Henning said he learned of the incident from Hall last week. But Henning would not say what Hall told him.

“Any comments on that situation should come from Courtney,” Henning said. Hall was unavailable for comment.

General Manager Bobby Beathard, who also learned of the incident from Hall, declined comment.

Hall also has problems on the field. A knee injury he suffered in the Seattle game apparently will keep him out of Sunday’s home game against the Seahawks.

Doctors are still uncertain how severely Hall’s right knee is damaged, Henning said.

“A strain, stretch or legitimate tear of the (ligament) is something you can play with, but you never know how debilitating it’s going to be,” Henning said. “I would venture to say we’ll plan to play without him.”

Henning doesn’t expect Hall to practice much this week. If Hall’s knee does not show improvement in the next two weeks, Henning said surgery would be a possibility.

“A lot of it involves Courtney’s threshold of pain,” Henning said. “The issue is, what’s going to happen the first time he puts weight on that leg.” If Hall cannot play Sunday, Henning said second-year center Frank Cornish from UCLA would start. While Hall played guard last year, Cornish started all 16 games at center.

Safety Anthony Shelton also is doubtful for Sunday because of a shoulder bruise. Henning said Shelton’s injury could mean more playing time for backup safety Darren Carrington.

Henning expects Duane Young, rookie tight end, to be activated from injured reserve in time for Sunday’s game, but that decision will be made later this week. The Chargers still have not filled the roster opening created last week when tight end Arthur Cox was waived.

Henning was mysteriously quiet about former Chargers quarterback Billy Joe Tolliver’s performance in Atlanta’s 17-14 victory Sunday over San Francisco. Tolliver completed 11 of 22 passes for 122 yards and two touchdown passes.

“I didn’t think anybody played very well for the 49ers or the Falcons offensively,” said Henning.
