A Change of Moniker in the Name of Clarity: Americom International Corp., an Irvine company whose hotel-office development in Moscow has been stalled by political events in the Soviet Union, said Tuesday that it has changed its name to Americom Business Centers Inc. The company has developed a 430-room hotel and office complex in a joint venture with the Soviet government. Americom said the name change is intended to resolve any confusion with other companies having similar names. In the past few months, Americom has laid off several employees, including its chief financial officer, to reduce costs. Americom also appointed Robert J. Caverly as chairman of Moscom Business Centers Inc., the Moscow company that manages the joint venture. He is a former executive vice president and chief operating officer for Hilton Hotels Corp. and an executive with Occidental Petroleum Corp.
