USAir Recalling Hundreds of Workers: USAir Group Inc. said it is recalling 250 pilots, 400 flight attendants and at least 80 mechanics who had been laid off over the last several months. A spokesman for the nation’s sixth-largest airline said the recalls are connected to the carrier’s recent decision to increase its fleet by 20 planes next year. He added that the Arlington, Va.-based airline, which has a major hub in Pittsburgh, did not lay off 150 pilots who had been scheduled to lose their jobs last month. In the past year, USAir has laid off 7,000 employees.
