A city police officer will receive $7,498 to compensate for the loss of his regular salary while he served in the Persian Gulf War.
Officer Ken Harper served from November, 1990, to August, 1991. During the period, the city paid him $3,397 for 30 days leave of absence, and the federal government paid him $971 per month as a reserve Marine corporal. Harper’s regular monthly salary from the city was $2,887 and increased to $3,060 on July 1.
The Arcadia Police Relief Assn. requested full reimbursement for the city employee, but the City Council on Tuesday approved pay for a maximum of 180 days.
