L.A. Unified Dedicates New Elementary School
Los Angeles Unified School District officials dedicated a new school Friday in a heavily overcrowded neighborhood west of downtown Los Angeles, one of five schools scheduled to be operational in that area by 1994.
Three of the elementary campuses are still under construction, but classes are in session at the other two.
Politi Elementary School, 1148 W. 11th St., the school dedicated Friday, is named for Los Angeles children’s book author and illustrator Leo Politi. His first book was “Little Pancho” in 1938, and most of his works have had Hispanic themes or characters, officials said.
