First Lady Gets Her Own Tulip

With a sprinkle of champagne, a beaming Barbara Bush on Saturday gave her name to the newest variety of Dutch tulip that will be exported to the United States.

The bright pink “Mrs. Barbara Bush Tulip” was developed by the Dutch Bulb Growers Assn..

Mrs. Bush doused one of the new hybrid tulips with champagne and remarked on its color:

“Beautiful, really. Just my favorite.”
