Gasoline Prices Rise as Temperatures Fall: Motorists nationwide paid an average 1.01 cents per gallon more at the gas pump in the past two weeks, due in part to a Midwest cold snap that has increased demand for home heating oil, an industry analyst said Sunday. The Lundberg Survey of more than 13,000 U.S. gasoline stations showed that the average per-gallon price of all grades including taxes was $1.2381. The latest twice-monthly poll was taken Friday. Cold weather helps raise gasoline prices because refiners curb gasoline production to gear up for heating oil demand.
