Northrop Gives Office Equipment to Schools

The soon-to-be-closed Northrop Corp. plant in Newbury Park has donated several tons of office equipment and supplies to budget-pinched schools in Ventura and Los Angeles counties, including Cal State Northridge, company officials said Monday.
Since January, Northrop has been moving its operations for missiles and unmanned vehicles from Newbury Park to a plant in Hawthorne.
Normally, the company’s surplus metal desks and file cabinets would have been auctioned or used elsewhere. But Northrop officials, citing money troubles in education, decided that the equipment would be better used in the classroom.
More than 3,000 pieces of furniture were distributed to CSUN and about 20 elementary and secondary school districts and private schools in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, executives said. The company also donated miscellaneous supplies, such as paper clips and pencils.
