Iran Offers to Release Iraqi Prisoners of War

Iran told U.N. Secretary General Javier Perez de Cuellar on Monday that it is willing to release all remaining Iraqi prisoners captured during the Iran-Iraq War and called for reciprocal action by Iraq, the spokesman for Iran’s U.N. mission said.
The spokesman said he does not know how many Iraqi prisoners are still held by Iran. Tehran had sent Iraq a list of some 5,000 Iranian prisoners it says are still being held in Iraq, he added.
