Marcos’ Return

Share

So Imelda Marcos is back to her flamboyant and ostentatious lifestyle again (“ ‘Penniless’ Marcos Stays in Plush Suite,” Nov. 5). It is my impression that Mrs. Marcos is suffering from a psychosis characterized by marked delusions and hallucinations. She claims to be poor and yet everybody knows that she is one of the richest women in the world today, with billions stashed in banks all over the world. She says she is penniless and yet she stays in a $2,000-a-day suite in Manila. She claims to be pious and holy and yet the Marcos regime was responsible for the murders and disappearances of so many people in opposition to it, including the late Sen. Benigno Aquino.

The “mother of her nation”? I am sure that most Filipinos would rather be orphans.

The sooner the Filipinos forget about the Marcoses and forge ahead with a new and more dynamic and aggressive but still democratic leadership in their coming election in May, 1992, the better it will be for their nation.
