World IN BRIEF : IRAQ : Kurd Rebels Report Artillery Attacks

Iraqis shelled three Kurdish towns and massed troops for what could be a new offensive in northern Iraq despite a 6-day-old cease-fire, Kurdish rebels said. There were no immediate reports of casualties. The rebels said the Iraqi army had massed forces along a 250-mile front from Zakhu, near the Turkish border, to Khanaqin, on the Iranian border. Kurds and U.N. officials also reported the Iraqis were evicting thousands of Kurds from villages on the front.
