Let There Be Light

Decorations may have been up in some stores and malls for three months, but in Glendale, the holiday season doesn’t officially arrive until the annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony.

Performances by the Study Circle Preschool, Pashkova Dance Studio, the Catholic Youth Organization, the Verdugo Swing Society and the Balboa Elementary School Tunesmiths will precede the lighting of the 16-foot tree Tuesday night.

Santa Claus has been signed to put in an appearance and will be available for individual consultations.

Glendale Special Events Coordinator Karen Fries said this is the seventh year the city has held the ceremony: “It’s really become a tradition here in Glendale.”

The ceremony takes place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Civic Auditorium, 1401 N. Verdugo Road.

You may need to bundle up, as this is an outdoor program. It’s also free.
