ANAHEIM : Water Conservation Effort Takes a Dive
The city’s water conservation effort took a dive in October with usage down only 6.8% from last year, significantly less than savings in previous months and far from the city’s conservation goal of 15%.
Edward K. Aghjayan, the city’s utilities director, blamed the shortfall on October’s unseasonably hot weather.
Water usage had been down 20.5% in August compared to the same month in 1990 and 16.7% in September. Anaheim residents and businesses used 1.8 billion gallons of water in October. The city adopted its conservation goal in response to California’s five-year drought.
Aghjayan said the city is still offering free water conservation kits to residents, including low-flow shower heads and toilet tank displacement devices.
