Nation IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Witness Recounts Kahane Shooting
A witness in the slaying of extremist Israeli Rabbi Meir Kahane testified that he saw the accused assassin with a gun in his hand moments after the shooting. Stephen Hoffman, 37, a computer sales representative, told a New York City jury that he heard “two big bangs” in the hotel conference room where Kahane was shot and then saw El Sayyid A. Nosair with a gun in his hand. Hoffman testified that he had known Kahane for 20 years but was not active in the Jewish Defense League, which the rabbi founded. The controversial rabbi was gunned down during a speech on Nov. 5, 1990.
