West Hollywood : Rent Disclosure Law Begins

Share

An ordinance requiring landlords to disclose vital rent information to prospective tenants before they sign a rental agreement went into effect this week.

The ordinance, approved last month, was developed in response to complaints from tenants who said they were unaware of the rent-control status of their units before moving in. Landlords must disclose several pieces of information, including the maximum allowable rent for a unit and the date on which it may be subject to an annual rent increase. The ordinance covers existing units and those under construction.

Violations can result in various penalties, including denial of a rent-increase application.
