A Proud Citizen

In response to a questionnaire soliciting comments from jurors who have just concluded their jury service, I received a response, which I think is worthy of being shared with others. The juror’s grammar may leave something to be desired, but her expression of her appreciation for being an American citizen is clear, concise and heartwarming. Those of us who take many things for granted solely because of an accident of birth perhaps should take note.

She wrote, “I was born and grow up in communist country. One day the wave of the life brought me to USA. Today I’m very proud to be an American citizen and live in free country, where people have a freedom. I’m very happy that I’ve been selected to serve to my country as a trial juror. I promise I will do my best to serve my country when it needs me. Thank you.”
