Oldsmobile Replaces Cutlass Calais: General Motors’ struggling division will introduce a new compact, the Achieva, in an attempt to win back market share from the Japanese. The Achieva should compete with the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord, the best-selling car in the United States for the last two years. Oldsmobile held about 10% of the total U.S. car market in the early 1980s. At the end of November, its share was 5.3%. Initial Achieva base prices will be $12,715 for the coupe and $12,815 for the sedan.
