Nameless Donor Allows School to Rehire Teacher
Seventy-six children no longer will have to squeeze into a single classroom with one teacher thanks to an anonymous retiree’s generosity.
School officials said the donor, who asked to remain anonymous, gave the school enough money to rehire a second-grade teacher after he visited the school. They said the man had heard news reports of the Wales school situation and had to ask for directions to find this town of 1,500 people.
Supt. David Roach said the donation was sufficient to enable the school district to return Nancy Hutchinson to her second-grade classroom of 36 students until a vote is held Jan. 3 on a referendum to raise an additional $160,000 in taxes.
