KIDDIE CARL: A new Carl Karcher--Carl the cartoon character--debuts Monday in TV commercials for his Anaheim-based Carl’s Jr. restaurant chain. Karcher, who appears in his own commercials, suggested the cartoon campaign to promote a new chicken sandwich. But his ad agency was reportedly more than pleased to go along: Consumer interviews showed that people might be more comfortable with drawings of the grandfatherly entrepreneur than seeing him in person.
