COUNTYWIDE : Board Boosts Fees to Drill, Deepen Wells
Ventura County supervisors approved without comment Tuesday a new water-well ordinance that substantially increases county fees charged for permits to drill or deepen wells.
Despite past objections from farmers and drillers, the Ventura County Farm Bureau endorsed the measure after county officials removed a controversial provision that would have required installation of meters when new wells are drilled or old ones repaired.
Among the fee changes are an increase from $350 to $475 for new well permits and a county inspection; an increase from $200 to $300 for a new well where the applicant provides the inspector, and a new fee of $300 for a permit to deepen an existing well.
