Israel’s state attorney Wednesday instructed police to allow Jewish settlers to move into Arab houses in East Jerusalem under heavy guard, a police spokeswoman said.

Spokeswoman Anat Granit said the settlers will probably move into five houses in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan today. They have been living in one house under police guard since October.

The settlers in Silwan, home to about 30,000 Palestinians, have challenged Arab landowners for the titles to more than 20 buildings. Palestinians say settlers have used forged documents to occupy their property.

Settlers say they have a right to Silwan, which Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East War.

Earlier, senior Palestinian leader Faisal Husseini said he asked Palestinian peace negotiators to raise the issue with Israel in Washington during resumed peace talks.
