Police Disrespect

In response to “Police Shot Man in Back 28 Times,” Dec. 4:

The West Covina Police commander’s quote, “Whether he shot him once, twice, or 28 times, the officer was protecting himself,” may be true but society does not hire people to behave so outrageously to protect themselves. Society hires people to protect society and that sense of responsibility is completely missing in the quote as well as the incident. As long as supervisorial staffs condone police disrespect for human life and dignity, we will continue to be less safe because of the well-taught lesson that they are part of the problem instead of part of the solution.
