NATION IN BRIEF : CONNECTICUT : Nebraska Air Base to Lose 3,000 Jobs

Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha will lose over 3,000 military and civilian jobs by 1994 as part of the dismantling of the Strategic Air Command, the unit in charge of the nation’s strategic bombers and missiles, the Pentagon announced. Eighteen of the bases now under SAC’s control are to become part of a new Air Combat Command, based at Langley Air Force Base, Va., next June. Four SAC bases will become part of Air Mobility Command based at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois.
