Southland-based Fernando Valenzuela rode Sweet Old Bill, who made up more than six lengths in the final sixteenth of a mile, to victory in the $52,500 Illinois Cavalier Stakes for Illinois-bred 2-year-olds at Hawthorne Race Course in Chicago.
Sweet Old Bill was timed in 1:47 4/5 for the 1 1/16 miles and returned $6.20, $5.40 and $4 as the favorite.
