Right-Winger Elected Vanuatu Prime Minister

PORT VILA, Vanuatu —
Right-winger Maxime Carlot was elected prime minister of the South Pacific nation of Vanuatu on Monday through an alliance with his old rival, former Prime Minister Walter Lini.
Carlot, of the ruling Francophone Union of Moderate Parties, defeated Lini’s successor, Prime Minister Donald Kalpokas, by 31 to 15 votes in Parliament, Radio Vanuatu said.
