Michael R. Darby, Commerce Department undersecretary for economic affairs, announced that he was resigning effective Jan. 4 to return to teaching at UCLA.
Darby was appointed undersecretary in May, 1989, and also served as head of the department’s Economics and Statistics Administration. Before that, he served as assistant secretary for economic affairs in the Treasury Department.
