Limits on Additions OKd

Construction of guest houses will be prohibited and second-story additions will have to follow new restrictions, according to a code amendment approved Monday by the City Council.

To discourage the crowding of residential neighborhoods, all detached structures, such as garages and storage rooms, can no longer be converted into guest houses. Second-story additions must be set back at least five feet from the first story and the floor area can not exceed 75% of the first floor.

The amendment was approved 4 to 0, with Councilman Anthony Naranjo abstaining.
