Caltech Professor Honored for Work

James E. Bailey, Chevron Professor of Chemical Engineering at Caltech, has received the 1991 Food, Pharmaceutical and Bioengineering Division Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

It includes a $3,000 honorarium.

Most of his work has been in biochemical reaction engineering, which is the use of chemical reactions in cells to manufacture pharmaceuticals and food components.

He received his Ph.D. from Rice University and served on the faculty of the University of Houston before coming to Caltech in 1980. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
