Stewart Expected to Make UCI Debut Saturday

Keith Stewart, a transfer from Marquette whose UC Irvine basketball debut has been twice delayed, is expected to play for the Anteaters Saturday against Lafayette in the Bren Center.

Stewart, a junior guard whom Coach Rod Baker hopes will give the Anteaters a needed offensive boost, has been declared academically eligible after finishing incomplete course work from the fall quarter.

“I’m happy that Keith is eligible and ready to play,” Baker said. “I’m as happy for him as I am for the rest of the team. Good players should have the opportunity to play. He will get his feet wet Saturday.”

Stewart missed the first four games of the season while fulfilling NCAA transfer requirements and one additional game because of NCAA rules violations that occurred while he was at Marquette. He then missed two more games because of incomplete academic work.
