Claremont : 1,100 Hilly Acres Annexed
More than 1,100 acres of hillside property has been added to the city with the filing of annexation documents with Los Angeles County.
City officials said the annexation will enable the city to carry out its Hillside Specific Plan, which calls for development of housing on 125 acres and preservation of the remaining hillside as open space.
The city is acquiring the land from a foundation affiliated with Pomona College and will sell the 125 developable acres to pay for the purchase and establish a conservancy fund.
In addition to the vacant land, the annexation includes the Padua Hills Theatre and three homes along Via Padova.
