San Diego
A 40-year-old man who wielded a gun as he threatened to kill himself and everyone in his downtown apartment building was under psychiatric evaluation at San Diego County Psychiatric Hospital, officials said.
Police arrested Ellis Graham of San Diego shortly after 3:30 a.m. Thursday after he surrendered a 9-millimeter semiautomatic handgun he allegedly used to threaten the lives of his neighbors and then himself at an apartment in the 200 block of J Street, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Graham dropped the loaded gun at the request of city police, but then picked it up again and stuck it in his mouth and threatened to kill himself, Robinson said.
He then ran into his apartment and slammed the door, Robinson said, but later left the room and cooperated with police.
