A record low number of traffic fatalities were recorded in Ventura County in 1991, the Ventura County medical examiner-coroner's office reported Thursday.
Deputy Coroner Craig L. Stevens said 70 traffic fatalities were recorded by the coroner last year, nine less than in 1990.
Stevens said the coroner's county traffic fatality records date back to 1970.
Since 1970, he said, the county has averaged 106 fatal traffic accidents annually. The record high for traffic fatalities was 127 in 1976, he said.
