Courts Are Not Racist
Your article of Dec. 5, regarding statements by the NAACP’s John Hatcher against the change of venue for the Rodney King trial, leads me to believe that there is no racist like a black racist. There is no sense of fair play and evenhanded consideration in his outrageous statements against the good people of Ventura County.
He states that 80% of the blacks who are tried in the county’s courts receive jail time. Does he have hard evidence that shows that somehow the judges and juries here have gone amok and have been too punitive on black offenders? I think that Dist. Atty. Michael Bradbury’s statement that 80% to 90% of all offenders do jail time tells the truth of the matter.
