IBM to Introduce Notebook PC in U.S.: The notebook-size personal computer will debut in the United States next month, giving IBM a belated entry into a fast-expanding corner of the market. IBM, which introduced a notebook PC in Japan two years ago, will produce a six-pound domestic notebook based on Intel Corp.’s 386SX microprocessor. Product delays have hampered IBM’s ability to compete in the hot portable market. Last year it postponed the introduction of a long-awaited laptop machine because of parts shortages. By the time it released the laptop, other makers had smaller and lighter notebooks on the market.
