An Oxnard man has been indicted on federal charges in the Dec. 20 robbery of a local bank, according to the Ventura County office of the FBI.

Max Maurice Majeno, 35, was indicted Tuesday on charges of robbing the 1st Nationwide Bank on South Oxnard Boulevard of $697, Ventura County FBI Supervisor Gary Auer said.

Majeno will face hearings Jan. 13 in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, Auer said.

The robber walked into the bank about 2:30 p.m. and showed the teller a demand note that said he was armed, Auer said. However, Auer said a weapon was never seen, nor was one recovered at the time of Majeno’s arrest.

A bank employee followed the suspect to a nearby shopping area, where other witnesses told police that they saw a man answering Majeno’s description run into a restaurant, Auer said.

Oxnard police officers who arrested Majeno in the restaurant found him in possession of the demand note and most of the stolen money, Auer said.

If convicted, Majeno could spend a maximum of 20 years behind bars, Auer said.
