Antiquities Passed On: A collection of more than 200 Egyptian funerary objects valued at more than $2 million has been donated to the San Diego Museum of Man by La Jolla collectors Dr. Geoffrey A. Smith and Mrs. Janet Bowden Smith. The collection includes three wooden shrines containing falcon mummies, as well as multiple mortuary vessels, scarabs, amulets and ceramic and wooden figurines. Many of the antiquities are from around 300 to 700 BC, although some are thought to be as old as 1500 BC, museum officials said. The donation is in honor of Dr. Smith’s father, Dr. Gerald A. Smith, a founder and director emeritus of the San Bernardino County Museum.
