David L. Sokol has resigned as chairman, president and chief executive of California Energy Co., the independent geothermal-electricity producer that moved its headquarters last year from San Francisco to Omaha. Company spokesman David Cox said Sokol was given an offer that was “just too good, unfortunately.” Sokol will become a board member, president and CEO of JWP Inc., a $4-billion multinational technical services company based near White Plains, N.Y., although he will remain on the board of California Energy.

Walter Scott Jr. will become chairman and CEO, and Richard Jaros president and chief operating officer, both of whom already serve on the California Energy Co.’s board. The company operates five geothermal plants including one near the China Lake Naval Weapons Center.
