Cosmetic Surgery

Share

I applaud your series on cosmetic surgery by Robert Scheer (Dec. 22-24).

However, I find it amazing that these articles have devoted so much time to the risks of cosmetic surgery without one word about the anesthesiologist. Surgeons cut and sew, but the patient’s well-being and life are in the hands of one physician--the anesthesiologist.

The anesthesiologist is in charge of all pre-, inter-, and postoperative care. He or she assures that the patient’s existing medical problems are properly treated and permits surgery to take place.

Before cosmetic surgery don’t forget to ask the important question: Is my anesthesiologist board-certified in anesthesiology?
