Storm Promises to Be a Distant Memory by Weekend

Fair weather fans take note: dry, sunny weather is on the mark, set and ready to go for the weekend.

“It’s going to be dry for the weekend and beyond into” next week, said forecaster Wilbur Shigehara of the National Weather Service.

The clearing arrives as the stormy low-pressure system that recently has dominated the weather over San Diego County departs. The high-pressure system now in place will remain through next week, keeping things dry and clear, Shigehara said.

“Incoming storms will fall apart before they reach San Diego. We have one storm coming, and all we will see of it is some high clouds,” Shigehara said.

Weak Santa Ana winds will raise temperatures slightly above normal today. The same winds will also cause temperatures to drop a few degrees below normal after sunset, Shigehara said. The normal high temperature at Lindberg Field for this time of year is 65 degrees, and the normal low is 48.

The Santa Ana condition will dissipate Saturday, lowering temperatures for the rest of the weekend, Shigehara said.

There will be plenty of sunshine at the beaches this weekend, Shigehara said. The highs will be 59, and the ocean temperature will be 58, he said.

Things will be warmer immediately away from the beach. In the coastal area, including downtown, a high of 71 is expected, accompanied by an overnight low of 48. On Saturday and Sunday the high will be between 62 and 68, and the low will be near 45, forecasters say.

In the inland area, the thermometer is expected to top out at 70 today. As the Santa Ana winds cease, the high will drop a few degrees, peaking at 68 Saturday and Sunday. Lows will be in the 40s all weekend, Shigehara said.

Cool temperatures will prevent snow from melting quickly in the mountains, Shigehara said. Highs in the mid-40s are expected, with lows near 25. Half a foot of snow has fallen in both the Cuyamaca Mountains and on Palomar Mountain, Shigehara said.

Highs in the deserts will range between 65 and 73, with lows near 40 degrees, Shigehara said.
