TUSTIN : City Votes to Join New Fire District

Share

The City Council this week voted to join a new regional fire district that would replace fire service now offered by the county.

If the plan to create a 16-city Orange County Fire Protection District succeeds, the new district would take over fire services now administered by the county, with the county retaining one vote on the governing board.

Cities serviced by the county began studying the formation of the new district about a year ago, with an eye toward having more control over fire services.

The relationship between the County Fire Department and the communities it serves has changed since the department began in 1980, with many incorporated areas becoming cities.
