With Few Options, It’s Worth the Bet

Your position against card clubs seems prejudiced to me (“Gambling: Deck Stacked Against Cities,” editorial, Dec. 29). Not all gamblers are low-life types who steal and lease hookers. The truth is that most gamblers are having a good time enjoying their choice of entertainment.

But the revenue issue is more important. We need to fund low-cost housing and medical care for the poorest among us. The sanctimonious Board of Supervisors says we can’t afford these humane services. The casinos might help. At least Stanton is considering a way to deal with these needs.

Before The Times slams the casino option, it should have some alternatives in mind.
