From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Officials have asked Texas hospitals to make sure plenty of antivenin is in stock. Residents in flooded areas have reported sighting many snakes seeking higher ground. Authorities also warned residents returning to flooded homes to check their electrical wiring and foundations. Meanwhile, three more counties--Brazos, Johnson and Williamson--were declared disaster areas, bringing to 28 the number of Texas counties eligible for federal relief. Floodwaters began receding in Brazoria County, southwest of Houston, the last area in Texas inundated by rivers overflowing from torrential rains that began before Christmas.
