From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Several crew members of a Spanish flotilla retracing Christopher Columbus’ route to the New World gave up at San Juan, Puerto Rico, and took a plane home. Columbus also had to handle a restive crew 500 years ago as he sailed uncharted seas in the small, cramped vessels. The 23 disgruntled sailors, part of a flotilla made up of replicas of the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria, complained about salaries, vacations and benefits on their voyage.
