SEAL BEACH : Fire District Plan to Get More Study

Share

The City Council voted this week to support further study of a new regional fire district whose services would replace those now provided by the county.

Council members authorized spending up to $5,000 for the study.

If the plan to create a 16-city Orange County Fire Protection District goes forward, the new district would take over fire services now administered by the Orange County Board of Services, with the county retaining one vote on the governing board.

Cities served by the county began studying the formation of the new district about a year ago, with an eye toward having more control over services.

The relationship between the County Fire Department and the communities it serves has changed since the department began because many unincorporated county areas have become cities.
