La Puente : Language Instructor Hired
The city has hired a language instructor to tutor non-Spanish-speaking employees, who face a language barrier with as many as half of the residents who inquire at City Hall.
City Manager Robert G. Gutierrez said he expects from 10 to 13 employees to attend the voluntary classes, which will be held twice weekly over a minimum of 10 weeks.
The course will be taught by Carolyn Collins, an instructor with Hacienda La Puente Adult Education. The City Council approved a contract Monday, agreeing to pay Collins $50 per hour.
