El Monte : No Vote on Impact Report

Share

The City Council has, for the time being, refused to approve a report on the impact that relocation would have on residents of a local mobile home park, citing concern over proposed compensation terms.

Owners of Redwood Trailer Park at Valley Boulevard and Durfee Avenue want to redevelop the land. State law requires that an impact report be approved by the council to ensure the fair relocation of residents.

Before Tuesday’s decision, Mayor Don McMillen said that the report was not equitable and that relocation would create financial losses for some residents who would receive less than the value of their homes.

Councilman Jack Crippen said a proposed reimbursement limit of $3,500 for residents unable to relocate within the one-year time limit should be negotiable.

With more than 30 park residents in attendance, the council voted unanimously for individual consideration in setting reimbursement limits. The council also voted to reconsider a modified impact report on March 10.
