OBITUARY : Former Mayor Stuart Maude

Dr. Stuart Maude, 75, a former mayor of Rosemead, died Jan. 9 of heart failure.

Maude, a veterinarian, moved to Rosemead in 1946 and established the Rosemead Animal Hospital in 1953.

He was elected to the City Council in 1962 and served until 1974. He was mayor in 1963, 1965, 1966 and 1971.

Maude was past president of the Rosemead Kiwanis Club and Rosemead Chamber of Commerce. He served on the board of Ingleside Hospital and was active in the American Red Cross, the YMCA, Boy Scouts of America and the Salvation Army.

He is survived by his wife, Vera; children Patricia Maude of Long Beach, Susan Bezner of Rosemead and Stuart Maude Jr. of Huntington Beach; five grandchildren; one sister, and three brothers.

Funeral services were Tuesday at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier.
