Share

Dr. Otto H. Lange, an internist who had a San Fernando Valley practice for more than 30 years and who recently worked as a staff physician at the Motion Picture & Television Hospital, has died at his Sherman Oaks home. He was 76.

Lange died Monday of lung cancer, said his daughter, Barbara Lange of Northridge.

Born in Hildesheim, Germany, Lange came to the United States when he was 17. He completed his undergraduate work at UCLA and received his medical degree from USC in 1941. During World War II, Lange served in the U. S. Army Medical Corps, making 20 transatlantic voyages on the Queen Mary. After he was discharged, Lange worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Los Angeles and in the late 1940s opened a private practice in Studio City, which was moved to Sherman Oaks in the early 1960s. Lange sold his practice in 1979 to become a staff physician at the Motion Picture & Television Hospital in Woodland Hills. He continued to work at the hospital until October, when he took a leave of absence for medical reasons.

Lange had been on staff at Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank and Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys and had volunteered his medical services at Monlux Elementary School in North Hollywood and Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks during the 1950s. He was a member of the American Medical Assn., the California Medical Assn. and Salerni Collegium at USC.

Donations can be made to the Dr. Otto H. Lange Memorial Fund at the church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
