Countywide : Ruling to Be Sought on Kampf Eligibility

Officials for the Ventura County Community College District will ask the state attorney general’s office to issue an opinion on whether Trustee Gregory C. Kampf can remain on the board, although he is commuting each week to a job in Northern California.

The district’s legal firm has already determined that Kampf, who still lives in his Oxnard house with his family on weekends, can remain in his position until he moves.

Nevertheless, Trustee Gregory Cole said he wanted a second opinion. At his urging, the board voted Tuesday to have state attorneys look into the matter. Officials plan to ask the state to review the circumstances next week.

In December, Kampf took a job as director of personnel at the Oroville Elementary School District, but said he might come back to teach in Ventura County if he cannot sell his house.

In the meantime, Kampf said he wants to stay on the board, where he mainly represents Ventura.

“I’m still a resident in the (Oxnard) home and a full functioning board member,” said Kampf, a former elementary school principal in Ventura. “Until we find out the situation with our home, I’ll still be attending board meetings and I’ll be home on all weekends.”
