PIANO TALK: “This is not a Steinway,” said Bob Dove of the Boston Piano Co. on Friday, unveiling its first Steinway-designed piano to be made in Japan, at a major music merchants convention in Anaheim (E1). OK, it is a Steinway; it’s just not the Steinway. . . . The Boston company is owned by Steinway Musical Properties, which also owns Steinway & Sons, makers of the famous concert grands. The Japanese pianos will be expensive; they just won’t be those famous handcrafted Steinways.
